Cadre Quietus was formed in 1999 as a guild to play Shadowbane. Since the game was forever in development, we played DAoC together before SB beta began. Once most of our player base got into beta, we dropped DAoC.
During Shadowbane, in which we enjoy a great amount of success, we forged a very strong bond with 4 other guilds: Dark Tower, Endless Stand, Iron Circle, and The Professionals. These 5 guilds made up the infamous Covenant of Swords, that rocked the world of Arynth.
Since that time, we have played other games together (Lineage 2, World of Warcraft, and some FPS games).
The purpose of CQ is to provide it's members with a team-oriented strategy to playing MMORPGs with strong PvP implementations. Granted, these games are few and far between, but that is the niche we most enjoy.
Those of us who have been "through the fire" of Shadowbane have forged very strong bonds - we know what it means to sacrifice for each other. We've experienced great success because of it.
Not all games will be as "hardcore" as Shadowbane, but those same kinds of sacrifices can be made in other games, the same strong bonds can be formed, and the same success can be enjoyed.
Our playstyle is basically the motto from Shadowbane: "play to crush". We had many run-ins with some in CoS who thought we played "too hard" and ran off the competition. That might have been true, but that's the way we play: full-throttle, no holding back.
The best compliment we ever received was during the peak of our rule in Shadowbane, when a neutral observer on the SB forums replied to our enemies: "You guys are losing because you're just playing a game. CoS is fighting a war."
This is not to say that we don't have fun... we just take fun more seriously than most. It's like the difference between a playground pickup basketball game and playing on a real team in a real league - it's a more serious approach to playing the game... and in the end, it's more fun. You get out of it what you put into it.
What we look for in recruits is a willingness to be a part of a team. That means sometimes sacrificing your personal preferences for the team. It never means sacrificing your priniciples. If you find that our playstyle or strategy goes against the way you think things should be, then there are plenty of other potential guilds for you to find a home.
We look for disciplined players that can carry their own weight and are willing to help each other out.
We look for players that are willing to put the guild's goals ahead of their own.
It's extremely hard to implement this philosophy in some games because they are so item-driven. WoW is one of those games. It's really easy to get caught up in the "me me me" of games like this.
We are NOT a PvE guild. We don't exist to simply PvE. We see PvE as a stepping stone to the endgame of PvP. Leveling, aquiring items, questing, etc., are necessary in MMORPGs (and hopefully fun, too), but those things are not our primary focus. Our primary focus is on PvP: play to crush.
That doesn't mean we never PvE or that we're not any good at it. In fact, we're very good at it. We have the some of the brightest players in gaming right here. We have players that can figure out strategies for PvE that nobody else can. We're good at PvE, but we want to be the best at PvP.
So if you're looking for place to simply beef up your character, look elsewhere.
If you're looking for a home where you can make new friends, be a part of a disciplined team, and use your strengths to better the team, then CQ might just fit the bill.
